Virtual Gallery Walk: Day 5

Welcome to Day 5 of our Virtual Gallery Walk!
First, if you've stopped by every day this week -- or just today -- thank you so much for the visit. This week I've shared how I'm inspired by Nature, other Artists, Color -- and today I want to share my inspiration with words. I love quotes -- words -- text. You will probably laugh when I tell you that I have a HUGE jar filled with Chinese Fortune Cookie quotes that I have saved through the years -- and often use them on Artist Trading Cards, and have even made a little mini-book dedicated to them. Little inspirational quotes really make me happy.

I find that using them in my Art Journal is how I express my feelings as I'm not one to pour my heart out on paper. Just a few words, or a quote is often enough to get them in my journal and out of my heart.
Sometimes the words are straight from my heart -- or a message to myself that I want to remember.

And other times, like below -- they are quotes that really spoke to me and I wanted to share pair them with art in my journal.

Often times I have the quote in my heart WAY before I have the art. The words rolling around in my head inspire the drawings on my paper.

Words evoke such an emotional response to so many and pairing them with beautiful colors and sketches is the perfect way to share.

Plus, it's a great way to practice and improve my decorative penmanship.

I've always had a love for typography, calligraphy (though have never had any training) so I can practice practice and practice some more with the beautiful quotes I scribble down on scraps of paper everywhere.

  1. What a fun idea! I love fortune cookies! I have some little fortunes that I have had for years and years because they were so special. I want to play along with the Whatevers, it sounds like so much fun.
