Welcome to Day 2 of the Virtual Gallery Walk with Liz Hicks and friends.
Today I want to talk about being inspired by other artists! I love to look at art on Pinterest and blog hopping around through other artists -- to see how they make art, the colors they use try to figure out what techniques they use. But it's easy to find myself sitting at the computer looking and not creating - and I'd rather be creating than anything else.
For me -- I like to challenge myself to try new tools, techniques etc. that I've been inspired by looking at other artists -- but I don't want to copy what they do. While they say the best form of flattery is copying -- I want to do my own thing.
Usually I'll create something that is similar to what I've been inspired by -- and usually I don't share those pieces. Sometimes the end result is so different that I do -- but not always.
In this case, I was inspired by Christy Kinard. I love her collaged flowers -- using a mix of different types of papers -- she's also got stencils, and a LOT of paint. Her paintings speak to me and I could look at them for days and days. Too bad I can't afford any, LoL!
You can check out her work here, at her website.
She uses beautiful colors, and paints flowers -- her compositions are amazing as are all the layers and stencils and things she uses!
As you can see, I'm no Christy Kinard -- but I had so much fun creating this painting that I can't wait for time to make more!
Here's my 10 x 18 Piece: Bloom

Great post...love your interpretation!
ReplyDeleteI love her stuff and your version too. How do you even start something like this-paint-paper? I'm a beginner and completely in the dark!
ReplyDeleteYour work is beautiful and fun, I like yours better. The white coming from the flowers is mesmerizing.
