I've had something on my to-do list for a couple weeks now, and that's to make a Holiday themed ATC to swap with my friend Stephanie from On the Funny Side of Life. One thing or other always took me away from even getting started on them.

Tonight, after I had finished up posting my LAST lesson for My Creative Classroom I decided to gitter done - and I did. Nothing like striking while the iron is hot - when the creativity, drive, and most of all time is there. This one literally took me about 1o minutes for each card....and I think they came out cute.

You can make one too, all you'll need is polka dot paper from Making Memories, cream and silver cardstock, vintage music sheet paper, Naughty or Nice stamp from Inkadinkado, small snowflake punch from Martha Stewart, red ribbon, red glitter and red bling.

Cut the polka dot paper to 2 1/2" x 3 1/2 " inches.
Cut the music sheet paper to 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" and attach to the center of the polka dot paper.
Stamp the naughty or nice stamp on cream cardstock and cut out, attach to left side of card, making the space on the top, bottom and left side the same.
Tie ribbon around card.
Punch snowflake from silver or cream cardstock and attach over ribbon.
Stitch around card using cream or white thread, pull thread ends to back and tie off.
Attach bling to center of snowflake and glitter to the naughty, nice or borderline boxes. I used Glossy Accents for that.
Write your trade information on the back and you're done!

How easy was that??

In other news, it was a snow day today so the boy was home all day. Not that much of an issue as he played out in the snow most of the morning - and in the afternoon when he was done playing and having lunch the husband was home and they hung out while I finished up work. Now that the snow is here and done falling - it's raining out. what a MESS that's going to make of our long, dirt driveway! Usually it turns into a big skating rink when we get snow, then rain then cold temps.....it'll be slippety slide down to the bus stop in the morning!!!

Making Tags....Snowman Tags too!

I was finishing up my last lesson for My Creative Classroom today and got side tracked with this little guy. The lesson is on making holiday tags, and I was going to include him, but decided to put the tutorial here, for you all to see. He still needs a nose, couldn't find any orange so I decided to wait untl I get some to finish that part, but just love how he came out.

what you'll need: Bazzill Snowman Chipboard shape, white paper, black cardstock, glitter - a couple colors of your choice, Bazzill Chipboard snowflake, stamp tag from Stampin' Up, red ink, Happy Holidays ribbon, twigs from outside, wire, 4 large and 6 small brads, sewing machine, stuffing

Trace and cut out your snowman from the white print paper. Add to chipboard snowman with a piece of double stick tape on his head only.

Apply glitter glue to the cut out snowman and sprinkle glitter over it.

Trace and cut out hat while waiting for glitter to dry.

Wrap plain red ribbon around the hat to form a hat band, secure the ends at the back with double stick tape.

When glitter on the snowman is dry, lift paper and add a little stuffing to the buttom two circles. Add two tiny branches for arms and secure in place with double stick tape. If your glitter is dry, stitch around edges of snowman. (You can stitch first and add glitter second if you want, this was just how my project evolved as I started without a plan....the best way to work sometimes....)

When you are stitching over the twig arms, be careful with the needle. I was lucky that mine were small enough that the needle went right through them. The twigs were dry so the needle stitched through them easily.

Add the hat to his head, then apply a couple more colors of glitter, if you want. I used silver, white, and some of the new tinsel glitter I picked up from Michaels last week, it's new and from Martha Stewart.

Wrap the ribbon scarf around his neck a couple of times and tie a knot to secure it. I like to add the scarf before I put the eyes and buttons so I get the face positioned in the right spot.

Use a drill to drill holes for the brads that we're using for the eyes and buttons. Use the tiny ones for the eyes and mouth and the larger ones for the buttons on his body.

Apply silver glitter to the snowflake and when it's dry, attach the tag to it with red cotton Perle floss. Embellish with a bow.

Bend wire and curl up the ends to add whimsical curls to each end, tie the ends of the wire to twigs using black cotton Perle thread. Tie the snowflake to the black wire with the black cotton Perle when you tie the wire to the twig arms.

You can use this as a fancy door knob decoration, as a package decoration/tag, or an ornament for your tree.

First Snow of the Year and a new Santa face!

We had our first snow of the season Saturday night - we woke up to a lovely blanket of 4 or 5 inches of the nasty white stuff, LOL. Yes, it's pretty - and everything looks so new and fresh - and covered with it. But it's cold, and I was really hoping we would not have any snow until like March or not until next year. I guess my wish was denied this year, hoping we don't have another 100 incher this year, I just don't want it.

Thought I would share some pictures I took Sunday morning. This hanging bell sun face was so pretty hanging outside my front door, I just love the way the purple door of my garden shed shows in his face right underneath his golden eyes.

David sits in my garden. I forgot to bring him in before the snow, but I need to remember to do that so he doesn't freeze and crack. I just love the way this looks, but wish the American flag wasn't protruding from the top of his head.

And, here's my little doggie wearing the Santa outfit I picked up her her at Target, it was only 3.99!! She wasn't very happy about wearing this, but did like the treat she got when we were done.

I've been working on another batch of snowmen, I did the arms a little different than the first batch, and I think I like the way they look much better, no glueing this time! They need to have some hats put on and noses too and then they'll be done.

They're a fun little project to work on while sitting in front of the TV in the evening.

One of the assignments I worked on recently for EK Success Brands was a heritage album showcasing a 12 x 12 Album made by K & Company. I completed 6 pages on the inside and did the cover as well. You can see the video that will be on TV at TerriO's website. Terri Ouellette is a spokesperson for the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA), she's also won two Emmy awards.

Needless to say, when I saw her on screen talking about the album, I got a little teary. I never thought a project of mine would be on National TV. Snowflakes....snowflakes....everywhere!

I've been thinking about snowflake ornaments ever since I went to my art group a couple Sundays ago. I saw a pretty one here, and she was kind enough to share where she purchased her large snowflakes from. Even though I ran right out and got some, I didn't end up using them on the ones I made the last couple of days.

I think the layered, different colors and textures really look nice, it gives the flake lots of weight and substance. The beaded wire really adds a lot of prettiness to them too. I realized though, after I was done - that I need to spray the backs of them. The bazzill snowflakes I used as the base are chipboard color on the backside.

To make them I had two sizes of Bazzill Snowflake chipboard, green and silver glitter, one wooden snowflake from Joann's, two snowflake punches from EK Success - one extra large and one small - I think a Martha Stewart one, beading wire and beads, a long brad - one of them was decorative and a couple pieces of bling - oh and some vintage music paper and cream chipboard.

Apply glitter to the snowflakes, two were silver and one was a sea foamie green.
Drill a hole in the center of the snowflakes when the glitter is dry.
Punch the large EK Success snowflake punch on music sheet paper, then also on cream cardstock. Glue the two together using Gel Medium or a glue stick.
Punch a small EK Success snowflake from the cream cardstock.
Punch a hole in the center of the two paper snowflakes.
Add all the snowflakes to the long brad, starting with the small paper one, then the the next largest one and so on until you've added them all to the brad. Position them so the brad closes on the backside, and close it. Give it a couple wacks with a hammer to make sure it doesn't come open when it's hanging.
Apply a decorative gemstone to cover up the ugly brad, if it's an ugly one :-)
Add a piece of beading wire, about 7" long to the largest snowflake, the Bazzill Chips that you put on the brad last and secure it with a crimp bead.
Add a pretty selection of beads.
Add another crimp bead and close the wire, leaving a loop to hang the ornament with and you're DONE! That's wasn't so hard, was it?

So, I just had an idea pop into my head on a fun way to use them altogether - hoping to do that soon.....when I've got a lot of other projects completed!

I'm so glad that the Thanksgiving Eating Fest is over with. I think I gained 10 pounds, just kidding. We went to spend a couple of days with my Mother's family and we like to cook. And eat what we cook. It was a nice visit, but I need to get back on track.

Since I've been away and when not away my head has been down focused on working on projects for My Creative Classroom, I thought I'd share this clock I made some time ago. It was published in my second book, Art from the Heart. Some of you haven't seen it, so I thought as Christmas is approaching quickly it would b e a fun thing to share.

This is just a regular wind up clock that I took the guts out of and made a collage on the face and closed it back up. It's one of my favorite projects from the book.

The inspiration for this came from another one I made several years before. I had an old trophy pin that my Grandmother had given me that I wanted to have out on display, but didn't want to loose it. So I made a little clock collage shadowbox to hold it. I've spent the last 10 minutes trying to find a picture of it on my computer and it's not there. I'll try to remember to take a picture and show you later.

Get your Advent calendars ready, tomorrow is December 1st. Can you believe it - only 1 month until the end of the year. Aaaargh.

Sewing Class at My Creative Classroom

I'm working on finishing up the last lesson for my sewing class over at My Creative Classroom and starting to think about what I'll be offering next semester. I've really enjoyed the learning process for on-line learning and am starting to looking forward to what I'll be teaching next semester. I've got one more lesson to finish up for this year and I'll be thinking about next...making a list....checking it twice - and adding a sketch or two to help decide.

To hold you over though, here's a little peak of the second Lesson from the Stitch up a Happy Holiday class ....

Turkey Centerpiece and another SNOWMAN!

I try to volunteer in my son's classroom as much as I can, this year it's been a little slow getting going, but I think we're getting in the swing of things. I think that children that can craft - more than just color and cut up paper - are better apt to find something to do at home when they are bored - so I like to share my crafting abilities with the kids in the classroom.

This is my first "crafting" expedition this year, but I don't think the project I've chosen is going to be too difficult. Cutting and glueing to make a fun vase or other Thanksgiving decoration.

I first started with a 15 oz can that I pulled out of the recycle bin. (I washed it before I used it in my craft.) Covered it with brown felt, cut some "feathers" from construction paper and glued them on the back of the can. Then cut a head, added some googly eyes, a beak and beard. Tied a piece of twine around the can with a tag that says "Happy Thanksgiving" and glued on the head. CUTE. Hopefully we can get it done in an hour! Wish me luck :-)

I've been looking at the snowman kit I bought from my friend Monday night - and decided that I just couldn't look at it any longer, I had to do something with it. So, I made another snowman last night. It was the perfect project to work on as we watched a weird movie (Adam Resurrected). I made the scarf this time instead of using an old wool sweater, I'm thinking I like the sweater better.

I'm also thinking I like the yarn for hair as well.

But the pompom, that really is the icing on the cake. The gilding on the lilly. The piece de resistance, said with my best french accent. The orange polka dots make me happy. It's the little things in life, right? I'm not happy with my handwriting on the banner, will most likely redo that on the computer - wishing I had an old typewriter.

Now my first snowman has a friend. He just needs a wooden base to sit on!

If you are local, The Beattie Chicks are having another felted class on December 16th. This time they'll be teaching Christmasy things....I'm already signed up - can't wait.

Felted Snowmen, AGAIN!

I put the final touches on my snowmen - hot glued their arms in, added some glitter to their bases and hats, added a piece of cream felt to the bottom of the wooden disk, and made a litte purse out of a green felt ball and some wire. I am in love with how they came out, the red one is my absolute favorite though! The one with the green scarf - well, his head is to big. He needed a smaller snowball :-)

The one with the green scarf I turned into a little ornament. For the hanger I used red beads and pearls, to resemble a cranberry and popcorn garland, I also added a metal believe charm from Tim Holtz. I think the reason I like the one with the red scaft best is the size of the base he sits on. I didn't have any of the larger wooden disks when it came to finishing it off, so I had to use a small disk.

If you ever get a chance to take a little class making felted people, don't hesitate. It's fun and very relaxing. Plus, it's always fun to try something new!

Wet Felted Snowman Class

I took a fun class tonight from my friends Hannah and Leslie. They've been hard at work on a new venture called the Beattie Chicks, you can see the schedule on Leslie's blog. The class tonight was all about making wet felted snowmen. OMG, we had so much fun! Here's the group of snowmen that were made, my two are in the front row - they are the ones with green and red scarfs.

Trying to put it together, a little bit different from everyone else.

Hoping I don't get my finger, I'm sewing on seed beads, only to take them off again because I didn't like they way they looked.

Here's my man, I'm going to have to hot glue the branches in for the arms because I couldn't get them all the way through, but he's so cute. The scarf is made from a piece of felted sweater.

If you live locally and can get to any of the classes put on by Leslie and Hannah - I highly recommend it. The classes are well thought out, they supply all the tools and stuff you need - they are great teachers, and they work so well together, and the price is very reasonable! It was a very wonderful class! THANK you ladies!

I've got a sick boy on my hands, will probably end up taking him to the Dr. tomorrow as he's got a fever that keeps fluctuating between 99.6 and 101, hoping it's not the swine.

Zentangles+Tired Boy=Long Afternoon

So, thought I would share some pictures from our class, this is a picture of my boy BEFORE the class started, notice the smile??

this is the smile that can only be found on his hand, at the end of the class. Note the ink is on his hand and not the paper??

Beginning to get frustrated, after about 1 1/2 hours. Doing great, but so ready to be done. Wants it to be perfect the first time out.

2 Hours after the class started, see the tears?? Wanting to be in the car on the way home. Still doing GREAT for being 10 and never Zentangling before.

Hiding his face from the camera, but I can still see him, LOL.

2 hours and 15 minutes into the class, he's resorted to taking pictures instead of tangling.

Trying to make him laugh, didn't work really.

2 hours and 30 minutes into the class, not wanting to get back to it and a little upset that I reminded him about the "rules" of taking an adult class with me.

I think he did pretty good, considering we sat in the back of the class, the teacher was working on a 11 x 17 pad at the front of the class and it was hard to see and he's only 10. I have always encouraged him that his work doesn't need to be perfect but he wants it to be the very first time out. I hope he can get over that and understand the learning process. He's a very creative soul and it would be sad if he gave up being artsy because he wants to be perfect!

He did say that he enjoyed the class - just wish it had been a little shorter and a little easier to see the "process" of doing each tangle. He (and his teacher) want me to show the class how to do it. Thinking about that one, not sure if I could handle a class full of these emotions, LOL.

Snow Flake Ornament

I made this pretty little paper snowflake ornament today at my art group. One of my friends, Pamela, brought all the punches, buttons, glue and glitter so we could make them. She always make the coolest things, thank you PAMELA for bringing all the goodies for this! LOVED making it, wishing I had made several more now!

It's been a crazy busy day, so ta ta for now.....gonna relax and do some embroidery for an upcoming deadline (tomorrow, he he)

just playin' around with Zentangles

A couple weeks a back I stopped in at my favorite store in Topsfield, MA for craft supplies and got to talking with the owner, Kate. She recommended that I take a class called Zentangles, that it was a lot of fun. So, after a little research on the internet, I got myself a cheap notebook to see how I might like it.

Wow, I am loving Zentangles! It's really a fun way to relax...and get a cramped hand too, LOL.

I just grabbed a regular old notebook, so sorry about the blue lines, but I didn't want to waste any time waiting for a new notebook....now that I know I LOVE this I think I'll be getting myself a fun, new notebook just to ZENtangle in!

I'm taking my boy down to Absolutely Everything next week so he can learn how to 'tangle, won't you?

Cookie Cutter Ornament Kit

I just couldn't resist them - I picked up quite a few vintage cookie cutters at the flea market last Sunday - thinking that I'd have time to make some ornaments - but I'm just not going to have the time to make them all. So I made up a few extra kits - quantities are limited, I only have 6.

Each kit includes: Complete, detailed instructions, 1 vintage tin cookie cutter (shapes vary), 1 vintage chandalier crystal, a piece of punchinella, vintage book paper, beading wire, new and vintage beads, jump rings, crimp tubes and a chipboard star, for $7.95 plus shipping, payment to be made by PayPal. US shipping is $4.95, International shippping is more, but will be calculated for each order. All you need to finish this ornament is some glitter, a photograph and the tools.

Just a Little Project....

I started making this as a pendant for something and then set it aside and forgot about it. Today when I was cleaning my studio I found it again.....and since the deadline has come and gone, I thought I'd share it with you. I didn't get the last few steps completed, but I wanted to. :-)

To make this wooden pendent:

You'll need: 2" wooden disk, dictionary pages, decoupage glue, watercolor pencils, photocopy of a photograph, scissors, sand paper, glue stick

1. Glue the wooden disk to the dictionary paper. If there is a pattern on the paper that you want on your disk, hold the paper and disk up to the window and trace the disk over the pattern on the back side of the paper. This is where you will glue the disk, make sure you get the pattern centered on the disk.

2. Cut the excess paper away using scissors and sand the edges using a nail file or fine sand paper.

3. Add a light layer of gesso to the edges of the disk.

4. Find a work in the dictionary that describes your image and cut it out. Glue it to the image using a glue stick.

5. Color image using colored pencils or watercolor pencils.

6. Photocopy vintage photograph of people and cut the people away from the background.

7. Glue dictionary paper to the other side of the disk.

8. Glue photocopied people over top of the dictionary paper.

9. Wrap with copper foil tape. Seal both sides with epoxy, Glossy Accents or your sealant of choice. Be sure to let it dry in between sealing sides.

10. Add a silver hanger to hang from a necklace or drill a hole for a jump ring. If you can find an eye hook small enough, drill a tiny pilot hole in the top of the disk and gently insert the eye hook.

It was a LOVELY Halloween!

I bought lots of candy for the few trick or treaters we get and made fun little tags to decorate the bags with using stamps and Distress Ink.

My boy in the center with my niece and nephew. My boy is an Army Sniper.

My Mom made us some cupcakes, they were delicious!

Don't worry, it's only a Red Rider! I made the hat by hot glueing leaves, ferns and branches to his booney hat. Next year I think I want to make him a big foot costume. My husband brought home the Gilly suit from work - and I think using the same process they used to make this suit I could make a way cool big foot costume. He wants to be a tree, so we'll see. Maybe I can convince him that bigfoot will a lot cooler.

This window that we walked by was GORGEOUS! I just loved everything about it!

Winter Wonderland....but the real thing can WAIT!

Sorry I fell off the face of the Earth for the last week or so....I've had a lot of things going on. Hoping to get the these things figured out soon and be back on my normal yoga, running, work create blog schedule. Soon, I hope.

In the meantime, I have been busy with work things and some fun play things. I signed up for my first Red Lead ATC swap, though had a ditz moment and made them using images that are NOT red lead images....so not sure what they're gonna do about that. I may have some cool ATC's up for trade, we'll see. Hoping they let it slide this time.

Anyway, the theme is Winter Wonderland. My vision is that this looks like a window that was covered with frost and the frost was wiped away to see the children playing outside. Oh, how I love happy accidents!

I followed several steps to make these and thought I'd share them with you.

First I did an image transfer on white Claudine Helmuth Sticky Back canvas using her Gel Medium.
After letting image transfers dry overnight, I spritzed water on the center of the image and rubbed the paper away only from where the people were.
I then applied a coating of glitter glue to the edges of the ATC, only to the paper that I had not rubbed off and sprinkled white frosty glitter on. I applied several coats of glue then glitter to build up a nice thick "frosty" layer.
I also used colored pencils to color the people.
Then I pealed the sticky back off of the paper and applied it to vintage book paper. The sticky back canvas is a bit smaller than 2.5" x 3.5"
I stitched the sentiment strip with silver embroidery thread (oh my I really dislike embroidery floss......I originally planned on stitching a snowflake but quickly gave that endeavor up after only 2!)
I attached the entire ATC so far to some pretty patterned paper and stitched around the edges using white thread.
Then I decided that it needed some Vintage Glass Glitter and added a little here and there to the snowman on one and the little hand warming muff on the other.
After adding my trading details to the back to all 11 of them they're done and ready to go out.
Now, let's hope they're OK for the swap this time and I'll follow the rules next time!

North Brookfield Apple Fair

Photos from the weekend. I took my Mom to visit her sister, about 3 hours away. It was a long drive there because we got hung up in traffic on 495 outside of Lowell, MA. but other than this it was smooth sailing.

We had a great visit, which as usual - involved LOTS of home made and delicious foods. Saturday we visited an Apple Fair in North Brookfield. It was, perhaps - one of the best craft fairs I've been to. So many cute things. I wish I had had more money to spend.

My boy had a great time with their weiner dogs, Spencer and Fenway. You can tell he was loving the attention he was getting from them.

Since I'm not ready to share what I was working on today, I snapped some quick pictures of the few charms that managed to get some color added to them. I need to figure a better way of sealing them. What I've been doing is a PITA (pain in the but) and there must be a better way!!

Art from the Heart Giveaway

I was in JoAnn's yesterday when I remembered I promised a give-away soon. Soon. What exactly, I thought, does soon mean. This week, tomorrow, in a couple days? Since I can't remember WHEN I said I'd be giving something away, I decided that soon must be now!

As I was looking around the store I saw this bin filled with pre-cut ATC blanks - watercolor paper, acrylic paper, textured paper....and more. Buy one get one...So I bought many - thinking that I would offer a give-away of a pack. But, when I took a picture of the pack, I realized it looked a little cheezy - so I've added to the paper pack - two original, hand made ATC's. Now it looks like a nice thing to win.

So, leave a comment on THIS POST, this exact post - and I'll pull a name from the hat on Monday. We've got big plans for the weekend so i'm not sure I'll get to it before Monday. I've been working on some charms.....do you like them? Actually, I made them a while ago and need to get them finished. I do love the way they look, so far anyhow. I have colored 2 or 3 of them, they are fun to make, that's for sure.

Well, gotta run. It's my friend Vic's birthday today....stop on by and wish her a Happy one.....she's only 38 or something like that! ;-) My boy and I made her a couple funny video's that tickled her fancy. Thinking people might want to hire us to make silly video's for them.....yeah, I didn't think so.
